Design of Voice Coil Motor (VCM) for the Actuation of Fast Tool Servos (FTS) | MS thesis Project | NJUST, China

Voice coil actuators (VCAs) are electromagnetic actuators that use the Lorentz force principle to generate motion over short stroke lengths proportional to the actuator's length. They are commonly associated with loudspeakers but are also used in precise motion control applications. One of the main advantages of VCAs is their lack of mechanical hysteresis, force or torque ripple, and backlash, due to their non-contact and continuous operation. This makes them well-suited for applications requiring precise and smooth motion control. The three-dimensional structural design is depicted below.
